Kebba K. Barrow, the Majority Leader and National Assembly Member for Kombo South District, yesterday assured his colleagues that the National Assembly will remain resolute in serving the supreme interest of Gambians, regardless of their backgrounds or status.
Majority Leader Barrow explained this yesterday at the Legislative House while moving the motion for the Assembly to adjourn sine and die. Barrow disclosed that during the course of their deliberations, they considered and adopted records of votes and proceedings of the daily sittings of the assembly and held question and answer sessions with Ministers regarding their Ministries. Barrow said the Ministers who appeared before the Lawmakers include the Ministers of Youth and Sport, Defense, Interior, Petroleum and Energy, Basic and Secondary Education and Works; that the following reports were also considered and adopted by the assembly namely the report of the National Assembly (NA) delegation to the 3rd ordinary session to the fifth Pan African Parliament, NA delegation to the 141 first Inter Parliamentary Union and General Assembly and other related matters.
Barrow disclosed that the consideration of the reports of the Monitoring Committees and the Delegation to the 219 meeting of the Network of African Parliamentary Committee on Health, could not be dealt with due to lack of quorum on Thursday December 19th 2019; that the sessions witnessed the tabling and adoption of motions such as the draft estimates of the 2020 revenue and expenditure of the Gambia; Finance Contract Agreement between the Gambia and the European Investment Bank amounting to 57 million Euros; the ECOWAS Convention on Small Arms and Light Weapons and Ammunitions and other related matters, and the appointment of Baboucarr Suwareh as Ombudsman of the Gambia, among others.
He said Bills such as the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2019; the Gambia Anti-Corruption Bill; the Information and Communication Amendment Bill; that National Human Rights Commission Amendment Bill; that Amendment of Discriminatory Bill; that Sexual Offences Amendment Bill; that Access to Information Bill and the Mutual Legal Assistance on Criminal Matters Bill, were tabled before Lawmakers by the Justice Minister.
“The above mentioned Bills were withdrawn by the Justice Minister due to some printing defects and these were the Criminal Offences and Criminal Procedure Bills 2019. I wish to thank the Gambian people for the trust they have entrusted in us and to assure them of the Assembly’s continuous resolve to serve the supreme interest of the Gambian people without fear or favor or party affiliation,” Majority Leader Barrow concludes.
