Lawmakers Highlight the Concerns of their Constituents

Lawmakers have yesterday highlighted concerns affecting their various constituencies and called on the authorities to provide remedies.

They made these remarks at the national assembly during the adjournment debate.
Saikouba Jarjue, member for Busumbala, cited lack of fire service station, portable drinking water among other basic amenities as challenges that are confronting his constituency, and as such he called on the relevant Ministries to provide solutions.

Amadou Camara, member for Nianija lamented the low price of groundnut as a great concern of his constituents. He said that the private buyers are offering higher prices than the government price and this has resulted to low sales in groundnut in the area, as farmers therein are reluctant to sell their nuts at a price given by the government.

He urged the agriculture Ministry to urgently remedy the situation.

Ousman Sillah, member for Banjul North pointed out the need to invest more in the productive sector, such as agriculture and young people. He however implored on the sectors to judiciously utilize the allocations made for them.

Sillah recommended that government focuses and come up with a value chain scheme, capacitate the young people to be able to curb high rate of unemployment among the youthful population, among others.

Alagie Sowe member for Jimara Constituency appealed for electrification of the constituency and submitted that the denial to issue political parties with permit to hold political rallies is unfair and called for repetition to be averted.

Sainey Touray member for Jarra East, said his constituency pays taxes as any other constituency, as such called for the taxes to be ploughed back to them to provide them with basic amenities and necessities such as the provision of water and electricity.

Alfusainey Ceesay member for Sami Constituency hailed the education ministry for the construction of two new schools in the area and urged that extra efforts be made to provide furniture to the constructed schools. He said this is necessary as the development of any nation relies on the education of the citizenry.

Ousman Touray, member for Sabach Sanjal, called for the provision of health facilities in the area to meet the health needs of the populace. He also called for the provision of an ambulance to facilitate mobility for patients. He also implored on the Sports Minister to provide a mini stadium in the area for the young people to hold their sporting events.

Member for Banjul Central, Muhammed Ndow has urged the youth not to listen or be allowed to be used by self-interest politicians, stating that such politicians are only interested in their own welfare and interest and that of their families.

He enjoined the young people to listen to good politicians who have the interest of the country and also implored on the young people to desist from the three years jotna movement.
