Police Chief Inspector Arrested Over Diplomatic Passport Fraud

Gambia Police Force have recently arrested and subsequently granted bail to Bubacarr Bah – a Police Chief Inspector over allegations of fraud in the issuing of diplomatic passports. 

According to the Police spokesperson, ASP Lamin Njie, Chief Inspector Bah’s name came up during the investigation into the diplomatic passport fraud case.  

He added that Bah was arrested and subsequently bailed after statements were obtained from him.

“Recently the investigation laid hands on new evidence connecting him further to the case against him which led to him being called in and his bail conditions reviewed,” Police PRO said.

He continued, “A complaint filed against him at the Police Complaint and Discipline Unit has also been transferred to the Serious Crime Unit for further investigations.”

Meanwhile, he added that investigations into the diplomatic passport fraud case are almost completed and all matters are dealt with accordingly. 

“The public will be duly informed upon final completion of investigations,” he concluded.

Allegations abound of fraud in the issuing of diplomatic passports leading to arrests at home and abroad. President Adama Barrow, the singular approving authority of Diplomatic Passports, has given instruction for “a full, swift and comprehensive investigation”.
