Gamtel are temporarily league leaders after shoving off Banjul Hawks 1-0 on Sunday 
evening.
With consistency, the telecom giants ascended to the league summit on seven points in three matches after collecting two points ahead of champions Real de Banjul, Armed Forces and 2011 league winners Brikama United who are all in a joint-second place with five points each.
It is a good start for Gamtel’s Tapha Manneh and sign of renewed confidence to make a solid charge for the domestic league title after wrapping up the previous campaign unimpressively, by their standard, without a trophy.
Banjul United denied Armed Forces the spoils by keeping their net sealed off and eventually settled for a goalless tie.
Third-placed Bakau United slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Wallidan, in another league showdown.
At East Park, Gambia Ports Authority, Saturday evening, rode past a resolute interior side to hit the ground running in the league.
Ports were held to a one-all affair in their match before this game and needed to buckle down to be considered serious league contenders by picking up points.
Against the Police outfit, Alagie Sarr’s charges left no stone unturned in managing to break apart the opponent’s resistance, courtesy of a second-half goal. Either sides settled for a goalless affair in the first period and looked to head to the same path in the final part until a well-aimed right-footed blast from inside the box found its way into the back of Interior’s net.
Elsewhere, Brikama United breezed past weeping Boys Serrekunda United in Brikama. They were forced to a stalemate affair in their last encounter but managed to squeeze the points off United who are proving every team’s ride having lost most matches in a row.
And finally, Champions Real de Banjul were given a taste of what they should expect this term in what’s already becoming bumpy for the capital-based club. Despite a summer of player signings, Real have to pick three points in their last two games drawing all.
