By Mustapha Jallow Having been arrested, held and released by the authorities on several occasions in the past, Mr. Mambury Njie, the former minister of Finance Mambury Njieand Economic Affairs, has now spent 49 days in his latest detention without bail or trial at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA). Mr. Njie was reported to have been arrested 49 days ago by security agents at his house in Brusubi around 10am and whisked away. He has since not been released, or taken before a court of law, which exceeds the 72 hours limit for the detention of a person as mandated by the Constitution of The Gambia. Family sources have told Foroyaa that the reason for his re-arrest and subsequent long detention is still not known to them. They, however, confirmed being allowed access to their loved one at the NIA in Banjul. Prior to his last arrest and detention, Mr. Njie was on trial on two counts of economic crime and neglect of official duty before Justice Mikailu Abdulahi of the Special Criminal Division (SCD) of the High court in Banjul, and subsequently acquitted and discharged on 3rd July 2014.  ]]>
