Gambia’s Badou Jack over the weekend became a light-heavyweight champion, Foroyaa Sport can report.
Jack, 33, shrugged off competition from Welshman Nathan Cleverly in the fifth-round that left his adversary with a cut nose, in an undercard duel on the day MacGregor Conor lost to Mayweather Jr in almost weird meeting of two champions of varying division worth an eye-popping $350m.
Badou, whose fight was scheduled for 2:30 am, strolled over Cleverly in his first clash in the light-heavyweight after spending almost five years in the Super-middleweight category where he’s also a belt holder.
Nathan snatched the light-heavyweight belt from Juergen Braehmer last October consequently making Jack, a former Gambian Olympian, a Unified champion.
Cleverly is the third British Boxer the Gambian is fighting following his duels with, Grooves and James DeGale.
On the back of his latest victory, Badou is now 175,000 USD richer.
