DEATH TOLL INCREASES IN GAS COMPANY EXPLOSION

By Sulayman Bah The death toll in the Gas Company explosion has now increased toThe late Burama Singhateh nine with the demise of Burama Singhateh who was being evacuated to neighbouring Senegal and died on the way, according to sources. The deceased was one of five victims of the gas explosion accident, being taken for further treatment outside the Gambia. Burama, who hailed from Badibou Jimara, was said to have died en route between Kaolack and Dakar before arriving at the hospital. His remains are kept at a Senegalese hospital, Saihou Jammeh, an uncle to the deceased, told Foroyaa yesterday. The tragic gas explosion occurred last week Wednesday at the Njegan Gas Company situated at the Nema -Sukuta Junction along the coastal road, leaving dozens seriously injured. It is unclear what might have sparked the explosion. “He passed away on Sunday some minutes before 7pm. Doctors advised against transporting the body back to the Gambia because of the serious state of the corpse. Burial rites are being delayed because of paper transactions,” said Jammeh. Burama, described as a calm and compassionate person and said to be in his late thirties, is survived by a wife and two children. His demise makes him the ninth person officially pronounced death out of the thirteen victims who were said to have been critically injured in the accident.  ]]>
