WHAT DID EU COMMISSIONER FOR INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT NEVEN MIMICA PROMISES THE GAMBIA?

The EU commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica told the media during his visit in February that he signed an agreement with the Government of The Gambia for the immediate release of 75 million euros to provide immediate financial and technical support to the democratic process in The Gambia and its dividends for the population in terms of good governance, respect for human rights and the rule of law.

Since the EU was concerned about the ‘backway’ syndrome the agreement included a contribution of €11 million to the Emergency Trust Fund for Africa, aimed at increasing job opportunities for the youth in order to address the root causes of instability and irregular migration. Indeed the 11 million euro Youth Employment Project was launched on 9 February 2017 from the trust fund for that purpose.

The world is now talking about youth employment. How will this be addressed?

Foroyaa will find out from the Ministry of trade, regional integration and employment whether the 11 million euros have been accessed and if so what has been done with it to create job opportunities for the youth to make them live a decent life since strong measures are been taken to prevent migration.
