Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have trained investigators within the Gambia Police force on exhumation techniques.
Officers of the forensic & scientific support unit, Crime Management Unit and Public Relations Office of the Gambia Police Force benefited from this training exercise on Exhumation Techniques and skills given by the FBI agents.
The training is aimed at assisting Gambia Police Force to enhance their techniques and skills on Exhumation, and was conducted for two days.
In his speech, a trainer and an agent of the FBI stated that the reason for organizing such a training exercise for the Gambia Police is to build their capacity in the subject matter.
According to him this will also serve as a stepping stone for a better and brighter collaboration and cooperation between the FBI and the Gambia Police Force.
IGP Sonko in his closing remarks commended the FBI training team and US Embassy Banjul office for their timely intervention; that this could not have come at a better time when the GPF is seriously challenged with sensitive investigation processes.
He further stated that the techniques and skills gained by his officers during the training will help expedite and enhance the whole investigation process. ‘‘The donated equipment will be used judiciously for better results,’’ IGP Sonko concluded.
In his closing remark, the Crime Management Coordinator (CMC) and Assistant Commissioner Bubacarr Sarr, thanked the FBI for their foresight and kind gesture towards the GPF. He promised that the donated equipment will be put into good use and the knowledge gained will be utilize and extended to other affected units of the Police Force.
The team from the FBI presented exhumation equipment and medals to the GPF through the Inspector General of Police Alhagie Yankuba J.N. Sonko. The ceremony was attended by the trainees and members of the senior management of the GPF and chaired by the Police spokesperson, Inspector Foday Conta.
