IS THE SUPREME COURT OF THE GAMBIA FULLY CONSTITUTED?
According to section 125 of the Constitution, the Supreme Court of The Gambia is supposed to have at least judges for it to be constituted. Foroyaa has been reliably informed that the court has at least five judges, namely Justice Hassan Jallow the Chief Justice, Justice Abubakar Datti Yahaya of Abuja, Nigeria and one time Judge of Gambia Court of Appeal, Justice Cherno Sulayman Jallow, QC, Justice Mary Mam Yassin Sey and Nicholas Colin Browne of Freetown, Sierra Leone.
It is also indicated that three of the judges are already here while the other two judges will soon arrive to assume their offices.
The state is also making attempts to amend the constitution so that the tenure of judges will extend to seventy five years. May be this is done to accommodate members of the Bar who are now above the current age limit of seventy for judges.
