The trial of Momodou Sabally yesterday 16th February, 2017 failed to proceed before Justice Aminata Saho Ceesay of the High Court in Banjul as state counsel Bafou Jeng applied for adjournment.
Until his dismissal, Mr. Sabally served as Secretary General Head of the Civil Service and Minister responsible for Presidential Affairs under the former regime.
State counsel Jeng told the court that she had not received any directive as to whether she should proceed with the case or not and therefore applied for the matter to be adjourned for a fortnight.
The trial judge emphasized to the state that the accused needs to know his fate as to whether the case is proceeding or not. Consequently, the matter was adjourned till 28th of this month for hearing. Mr. Sabally earlier had informed the court that his attorney Barrister Lamin S Camara was on his way from Brikama Magistrates’ Court.
The accused is charged with eight counts ranging from economic crimes, abuse of office, neglect of official duty and giving false information contrary to the laws of The Gambia.
However, he denied any wrong doing and was granted bail on condition that he provides the sum of one million dalasi or two Gambian sureties with landed properties of the same value.
