The letter should also call for the authorities to provide Mr Jallow with access to his family and lawyers and to ensure that he is not subjected to torture and other ill-treatment while in detention.

Mr Jallow was appointed ‘Deputy Minister’ of Foreign Affairs with effect from 23 August 2016. He arrived from abroad to take up his appointment but even before he was sworn in he was dismissed on 1 September 2016 and on 2 September he was arrested and is now under the custody of the NIA.
