The nomination of the coalition standard bearer Mr. Adama Barrow has been accepted by Independent Electoral Commission on
Wednesday, November 09, 2016 after fulfilling all the requirements of a presidential candidate.
Thousands of coalition supporters including women and young people accompanied Mr. Barrow and other leaders in the alliance namely; Mr. Halifa Sallah of PDOIS, Mr. Hamat Bah of NRP, Mr. Omar Jallow alias OJ of PPP, Dr. Isatou Touray of the independent and Mr. Mai Ahmat Fatty of GMC.
About 100 fully loaded commercials vans and private cars moved slowly behind a huge crowd who marched or trotted from the Buffer Zone to the Election House (the IEC headquarters) in Kanifing chanting for change.
Meanwhile after the arrival at the election house, Mr. Alieu Momar Njai, the Chairman of the IEC welcomed the team of 
nominators after short silent prayers. He confirmed that the candidate has fulfilled the constitutional requirement of citizenship and senior secondary school education. He then asked for the candidate to provide the receipt of registration payment as well as income tax which was done. He therefore announced that Adama Barrow is qualified to contest in the December, 1st Presidential election.
The IEC Chairman at this point took the opportunity to advise the coalition members to be more responsible and observant of the code of conduct during the election period. He urged them to ensure that their utterances and conduct are in line with the Electoral code of conduct at all times in ensuring the prevalence of peace and tranquility in the country.
However, he said the documents are subjected to scrutiny which is a requirement of the law and that will be done on Friday.
For his part, the presidential nominee, Mr. Adama Barrow assured that they will live up to expectation as good citizens of the Gambia. However, Barrow also called on the election body to be independent and fair in the electoral process in order to make the result easily acceptable.
During a brief press interview with waiting journalists after submitting his credentials, Barrow said it was not easy for them to come together as political parties, noting that even to bring a family together is difficult. He said they have compromised a lot as leaders for the interest of the Gambian people. He concluded by saying he is backed by strong people with strong technical background who can ensure the quick development of the country particularly fixing the failing economy of the country.
