Information received by Foroyaa indicates that Momodou Sabally, who until Tuesday was the Director General of the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS), is under arrest and detained by the authorities.
Upon a visit to his family home at Lamin yesterday, 9 November, 2016, to find out his situation, one of his elder sisters, Binta Sabally, told this reporter that her brother set out for work but never returned home since 8 November.
Asked if she knows why he did not come back, the sister said they couldn’t establish the reason(s) behind what had happened. “We do not know where he is currently held. I received a call from his wife who informed me that she visited the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) headquarters in Banjul but was told that her husband is not in their custody, she said.
However, she added that relatives and friends were coming from different areas to show sympathy for their brother’s situation.
Momodou Sabally was appointed as Director General of The Gambia Radio and Television Services on Monday 15 February 2016, while he was serving as the Acting Manager of Daily Observer at the same time.
Readers may recall Sabally replaced Lamin Manga as director general of GRTS almost a year ago.
He was appointed as Minister of Presidential Affairs, Secretary General & Head of the Civil Service with effect from 10th June 2013.
Sabally was removed as Secretary General in July 2014, and was later taken to court, but he was later benefitted from a presidential pardon on 30 Sep 2015.
