Physical Planning Department Not Responsible for Demolition of National Tourist Guides’ Office Developing story

By Alhagie F.S Sora The head of demolition at the Department of Physical Planning, Mr. Amadou Bachally, yesterday refuted reports that their office was responsible for the demolition of the office of the National Tourist Guides, situated at the entrance of SeneGambia Beach and Kairaba Beach Hotels. The head of the demolition team at the Physical Planning said he is not aware of any demolition at the tourism development area (TDA). He further clarified that anything that has to do with TDA, is the concern of the Gambia Tourism Board. “We are not aware and are not responsible for the demolition at the TDA,” emphasised Mr. Amadou Bachally, head of the physical Planning demolition team in Banjul. It could be recalled that the office of the National Tourists Guides at the TDA, was demolished on Friday 29 August 2014 at around 4am by unidentified people. The Guides had earlier convened a press conference aimed at briefing the media regarding the numerous confrontations on the notification to demolish their structure. The Guides numbering about 60 young people said the dispute is between them (guides), Gambia Tourism Board, Ministry of Tourism and the Management of the SeneGambia Beach hotel The president of the National Tourist Guides, Mr. Mustapha Jobe, said their office was not demolished during official hours, adding that they would report the matter to the police for investigation on the issue. Efforts made to speak to the GT-Board proved futile, but Foroyaa will continue to seek for their opinion on the issue.  ]]>
