The joint Public Accounts Committee/Public Entreprises Committee (PAC/PEC) of the National Assembly on Wednesday 13 April 2016, received the 2014/2015 audited financial report presented by the Public Utility Regulatory Authority(PURA).The 79 page report was presented by Mr. Ansumana Sanneh, Director General of PURA, to the joint committee and which centred around seven key areas namely Corporate Governance and Human Resources Review, Financial Review, Marketing Development Review, Consumer Affairs, Legal and Compliance Review, Key Regulatory Activities embarked on by the Authority and Outlook for 2015 and beyond vis-a-vis the sectors being regulated.
“The annual report 2014 is produced in line with PURA’S obligation under the PURA Act 2001 to report on its activities annually for the preceding year. This report documents the achievements of the Authority as well as the challenges it faced in the execution of its mandate,” noted the PURA Director General.
The regulatory authority’s financial and external auditor’s reports were presented by Mr. Paul Mendy, the PURA Director of Finance, and Matarr Cham, AA & CO Certified Accountants, respectively.
Mr. Samuel Mendy, the official from Gambia Public Procurement Authority (GPPA), told the committee that PURA is 97 % compliant regarding the procurement policies. He, however, noted that PURA has refused to adhere to the 040 (Supply Performance Assessment Form) and the 041 (Payment Authorisation Form).
The PAC/PEC however asked the PURA officials to come back for further scrutiny of their report on Thursday, 14 April 2016.
The National Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority (NAQAA) was also asked to come back on Thursday, 14 April, having presented its report.
