Lands Minister Tasks Taskforces to Investigate Undisclosed Yaya Jammeh Lands

Honourable Hamat N.K. Bah, the Minister of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs during his inaugural statement at the launch of the two taskforces responsible for investigating illegal activities on the Tanbi Wetlands in Cape Point and Jehswang, and other government designated layouts, said the aforesaid investigative committees are tasked to investigate all the lands belonging to former President Yahya Jammeh that were not submitted to government as part of his assets and not submitted to his Ministry. 

He said Jammeh was said to have own various lands in various places, which were not disclosed to the Janneh Commission.


“Jammeh was believed to have own a fifty (50) hectares of land in Jambur [in West Coast Region], a fifty-one (51) hectare land in Manduar, about three-hundred and thirty (330) by six-hundred and thirty (630) meters wide land in Madiyana – Burfut; the Sanyang – Santamba about three hectare land; his 1.2 hectare land in Sanyang village; and his land in Gunjur town the land opposite the Gunjur hotel and the 66 hectares at Casa Kunda which the police are currently investigating, but we also want it to be part of the taskforce investigations for us to take further directions,” Minister Bah said.

He added: “The sub-committee submitted a report of which some of those lands were retain, other lands were sold, and some of the other lands were kept for government usage in the future, but this fifty hectare of land and some of these lands were not part of that and we want to know what happened with these land. We want the committee to give the information on their status and what happened? Who did what?”
