5 TRANSPORT UNION MEMBERS RELEASED

Five members of the Transport, Agriculture, Food and Industrial Workers Union under the leadership of Ousman Drammeh, who were reported arrested and detained at Gunjur Police Station are all released yesterday, 28 June, 2016.

Mr. Modou Njie, the Secretary General of the Union, confirmed to this reporter that their members namely Omar Touray, Lamin Darbo, Batch Samba Jallow, Jim Haddin and Buba Krubally have been finally released from Police custody.

He said he and other remembers of their Union visited the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) in Banjul to take up the issue of the arrest and detention of their members, among others and that their statements were taken and were told that an investigation on the matter will commence.

It was earlier reported that the five were arrested on 27 June 2016 at the Sambouya sand mining site where they are stationed to be selling out tickets to trucks coming to collect sand.
