The Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) recently arrested three Senegalese nationals along with twelve Gambians in connection with fifteen drug-related cases, a significant move in the country’s ongoing fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
According to Mr. Ousman Saidyba, Public Relations Officer for DLEAG, all suspects are adult males. The three Senegalese nationals were apprehended in the North Bank Region — two at the Amdalai border post and one at the Barra ferry terminal.
“One individual caught at Amdalai was found with 100 ecstasy pills, while another carried two bundles of cannabis sativa,” Saidyba explained. “The suspect arrested at the Barra ferry terminal was seized with 200 ecstasy pills.”
The cumulative seizure during the reporting period was substantial, including five bundles of cannabis sativa, eleven parcels, 250 wraps, two smoking joints, and quantities of cannabis resin (hashish), along with 54 pieces and one wrap of kush, 29 wraps of skunk, four medical plastics, five ecstasy pieces totaling 315 pills, crack cocaine, and one stone.
In addition to arrests, the agency filed three new drug cases involving possession of prohibited substances under Section 35 of the Drug Control Act (DCA) 2003. The agency also successfully prosecuted three drug cases during the same period — two for possession under Section 35 and one for drug trafficking under Section 43 of the Act.
“Two of the cases were concluded at the Brikama Magistrate Court and one at the Bundung Magistrate Court,” Saidyba added.
