The National Assembly is to begin a new session on 16th June 2025. This is the second session of the 2025 legislative year. The National Assembly will have the option to give or deprive the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia (Promulgation) Bill 2024 a three-quarters majority at the second reading.
If they allow it to pass, the Gambian people will have the greatest opportunity to subject every clause of the Bill to proper scrutiny. It is very likely that all political parties that are worth the salt, religious and civic organisations are likely to send memoranda to state their position on each clause of the Bill.
This would definitely enrich the debate on the type of constitution Gambia deserves and the 2016 change of government. Foroyaa will take the initiative to contribute to raising of awareness on the content of the Bll once it is remitted to a committee of the National Assembly for scrutiny and advice on content.
