The Gambia Police Force (GPF) on Tuesday, 12th September 2023 reported on their Facebook Page that three Police Intervention Unit (PIU) personnel were shot at by a lone gunman.

According to police sources, two male officers, PC Pateh Jallow and PC Sang J Gomez were pronounced dead upon arrival at the Ndeban Clinic in Bakau, after a shooting at the Sukuta Traffic Light by unknown assailants.

However, WPC Nancy Jallow is currently said to be receiving treatment at the same Clinic for her wounds with her condition reportedly critical.

“Without delay, the injured officers were swiftly transported to the Sukuta Health Centre, and due to the severity of their injuries, they were subsequently referred to the Ndeban Clinic in Bakau,” the police reported.

According to the Police, the incident unfolded in perplexing circumstances with the motive of the perpetrator behind this brutal attack still unknown.

“In response to this grave situation, an immediate manhunt has been initiated to identify and apprehend the individual(s) responsible for this incident. A civilian male eyewitness is actively cooperating with the police investigation, providing a detailed description of the lone gunman, who was observed wearing a Kaftan and carrying a pistol,” the police noted in an earlier statement.

The police had earlier advised the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station, in their effort in the manhunt for the suspect.

Several hours later the police announced that with the help of its counterpart in Senegal, the operation to apprehend the suspect was executed, leading to his capture in Dioulouloung, Casamance. They identified the suspect as Ousainou Bojang, a resident of Brufut Bojang Kunda.
