Every Gambian of 18 years or above has the right and power to determine who will be the President of The Gambia in 2016 that is if one possesses a voter’s card. December 1st is D-Day. Every voter should now focus his/her attention on the electoral system and the personalities who are appearing before them as candidates. The electoral system is not like those in Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana and the rest of them where a candidate cannot win in the first ballot unless one has 51% or more of the votes that has been removed from the Constitution, now one could be President if one has the simple majority of votes even if it falls below 51%. Hence many people are making claims that unless opposition candidates come up with one among their number to contest the elections their division will deprive them of victory. The electorate may wish to begin to make their own assessment of who the most suitable candidate is. They should ask all those they know who they would prefer to put up as an opposition coalition candidate. The list of candidates in alphabetical order is as follows: Adama Barrow, Halifa Sallah, Hamat Bah, Dr. Isatou Touray, Dr. Lamin Bojang and Mama Kandeh.
It would be a useful national exercise if each voter asks the other who would make a successful flag bearer for the opposition in 2016.       FOROYAA would be interested in the results of such grassroots assessment.
