Ellen Badjie, a fourteen-year-old girl residing in Abuko is seeking support to undergo overseas to facilitate her medical treatment.

14-year-old Ellen Badjie was diagnosed in 2018 with rheumatic heart disease after going in to the hospital with joint pain and sore throat.

Badjie underwent many tests including a chest x-ray which showed massive cardiomegaly (enlarged heart). She also had a cardiac echo which showed a prolapsed anterior mitral valve leaflet causing severe regurgitation and incompetence.
As a result, Badjie needs valvular replacement surgery overseas as this procedure cannot be performed in The Gambia.
Badjie’s family is seeking funds from individuals, NGOs and government institutions to get young Badjie the treatment she needs.
