The Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure in partnership with the National Roads Authority on Tuesday, 14 January 2025 signed the contract documents for the construction of the Bertil Harding Highway phase III with the AREZKI Company.
AREZKI Company is re-contracted to construct phase III of the Bartil Harding highway. AREZKI Company did the first and second phases of the construction of the same road.
During the signing ceremony, stakeholders disclosed that the third phase will include the construction of a new bridge around Sukuta, connecting parallel roads to the Bertil Harding highway, establishment of traffic lights and cameras to improve the security of the road and service roads.
Minister for Transport Works and Infrastructure Hon Ebrima Sillah said the construction of the Bertil Harding Highway has uplifted the infrastructural development of the Gambia.
Minister Sillah said his Ministry is overseeing the construction of about five hundred kilometers of roads across the country.
He said the third phase of the Bartil Harding Highway will ease the flow of traffic around.
“We can all attest to the fact that the construction of the Bartil Harding Highway, has eased the movement of vehicles and shortened the time we spend in traffic,” Minister Sillah added.
“The AREZKI Company is again awarded the contract to construct the third phase of the contract, this is because of the good work the company did during the implementation of the first and second phases,” he stated.
Chief Executive Officer of AREZKI Company Mr Tariz said his company has already secured 70% of the resources needed for the third phase of the contract.
“The contract awarded to us includes the construction of traffic lights and cameras to improve the security of the road. We will also construct a bridge around Sukuta and also connect the parallel roads to the highway,” he noted.
He said the other component of the project is the beautification of the Highway. He said after the signing ceremony, his company will finalize the designing component of the project.
