Women’s Game: Gambia Dumped by Burkina Faso

Source GFF-The Gambia National Women’s U 20 Scorpions have missed out narrowly to proceed to the next level of Qualifiers for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup following the young Scorpions goalless draw at home to Burkina Faso on Saturday 1st February 2020 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau with a 3-2 aggregate scoreline.

After an entertaining first half that ended barren with either side pushing hard to break the stalemate, the hosts nearly took the show when forward Kumba Kuyateh hit the back of the opponents net but was adjudged to be offside just at the stroke of 54 minutes.

The Gambia created most of the chances although the visitors control most of the possession but neither side could break the deadlock earning Burkina Faso to still maintain their advantage.

The match proceeded with slight chances for the Gambia to put her nose in front but pegged back due to Burkina’s defensive prowess.

With the draw, Burkina Faso will advance to the next stage of the Qualifiers where they would face off Nigeria in the proper Qualifiers for a home and away double.

Young Scorpions Coach Foday Bah expressed his disappointment about the result adding that his side could have easily won the the game if not for late injuries and illness to some key players. He said the performance wasnt bad considering the pedigree of the opponents. He congratulated the team for been so patriotic and showing their zeal during the period while also appealing to the GFF to keep the team together for future competitions.
