Gambia women national team were this week held to a one-all stalemate by visiting Scottish side, Glasgow Girls Women national team pinned downFootball Club.

In what was a first international friendly for the lady Scorpions outfit this year, the visitors stole the lead in front of a park full mini-stadium via Leigh Ferrol before the Gambian side fired back to draw level.

The friendly marked end of the Glasgow-outfit’s seven-day visit to the Gambia.

GGFC opened their campaign with a 2-0 defeat to dislodge champions Red Scorpions before bouncing back to beat second tier side Jeshwang United at the Brufut sandy football field.

That encounter was followed by a goalless draw against Female Division One domestic league champions Interior at the Brikama mini-stadium before their latest stalemate with the women national team of the Gambia.

During their week-long stay in Gambia, the GGFC toured a number of places on sight seeing and met locals of the Brufut community before engaging in a clinic to share views with their counterparts in Gambia at the Goal Project in Yundum.

Gaffer George Petteson was all praises to the people of The Gambia lauding the reception they were offered as ‘exceptional’.

The Gambia Football Federation supremo Kabba Bajo showered thanks to Adventure Kicks for ensuring arrival of the Glasgow Girls at a cocktail reception held at the Sea View Gardens Hotel.

‘I want to say special thanks to Mr Martin Myres and Mr Sang Mendy whose energies have been used to making the visit of the Glasgow Girls FC to the Gambia a success,’ Bajo said.

The visiting side were on the brink of leaving yesterday evening as we went to press.
