WILL ASSAD’S DEPARTURE LEAD TO A STABLE SYRIA?

47

For more than 50 years, the Assad family ruled Syria. Syria is currently in the hands of an armed opposition that have asked the prime minister to hold on to the affairs of state administration. The military is mobilised to contain the Kurds, who claim to own a portion of Syria, Turkey and Iraq, which they claim to put together to build a Sovereign state of their own.

A portion of Syria is also occupied by ISIS, who are currently contained by bombardment from US forces. Israel has also moved from the Golan Heights to occupy territories and has been striking arm caches in Syria. Turkey has also expressed its condition for Israeli expansion to be contained.

As it stands, there is need for a national conference for the Syrian people, irrespective of their individual characteristics to work to build a stable country.
