In 2023, the President announced the date of the commencement of the groundnut trade season which was established as 4th December, 2023. Today is 4th December, but the date of the commencement of the trade season has not been announced. Foroyaa contacted the National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation (NFSPMC)(formerly called GGC), but they said they were on preparation. The Ministry of Agriculture, State House and the NFSPMC should be on the same wavelength when it comes to the announcement of the price of groundnuts, the date of commencement of the trade season and the tonnage to be bought. At the moment, the farmers are in the dark.
The ‘seccos’ have been accused of having failed to deliver to expectation by the NFSPMC and shakeups should have taken place since early 2024 to prepare for the 2024/2025 trade season.
Foroyaa will still continue to engage the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Security and the NFSPMC to get the facts and convey the details to the public.
