QUESTION OF THE DAY

Why are markets the areas to respond to any rumours of a crisis?

The information regarding the arrest of some Gambians at the West Field junction was interpreted in many ways by Gambians, especially those selling at the markets in Banjul, Serekunda and Brikama.

Apparently, markets are very vulnerable to looting of goods and arson in crisis situations. Hence those in markets do not take rumours or reports on crisis very lightly. They do not take chance. They often react first by closing their businesses and then ask later to determine whether a given threat is real or imagined.

Foroyaa will interview those selling at the markets to find out why many closed their businesses by 5pm on Thursday, 14 April 2016.
