WHEN WILL THR RIGHT TO VOTE BE EXTENDED TO GAMBIANS ABROAD?
Central Africa Republic is emerging from chaos to hold its elections. However, their citizens who are resident abroad had the right to vote. In the Gambia, citizens resident abroad have always been excluded from the franchise. Registration is about to begin and Section 11 Subsection 1 of the Elections Act states that “The Commission shall prepare, compile , and maintain ….a register of voters for each constituency and a register of Gambian registered voters in foreign countries.”
We have never seen a register containing the name of Gambians in foreign countries. The Diaspora should join people at home to ask why and seek redress.
