WHEN WILL NATIONAL ID CARDS BE ISSUED REGULARLY?
Foroyaa has been receiving complaints of the lack of renewal of national identity cards. Some readers have told us that it is now coming to six months since the commencement of the new year, almost half the year, but national identity cards are not being renewed. Foroyaa will get in touch with the immigration authorities to find out what the situation is, the challenges they face and what they have been doing to overcome them.
Needless to say it is a requirement of the law that a citizen moving in public must have be in possession of a national identity card and the police or immigration officials have power to restrain the movement of such citizen.
Moreover these national identity cards are needed for many transactions including bank transactions.
Since this is the case it is the utmost obligation of the immigration department to ensure that adequate supply of national identity cards are made available.
