When media reports revealed the allocation of D40 million to seven media establishments Foroyaa undertook to conduct investigation on the content of the contract between the media establishments and the government to determine whether they were bound to provide outlets for the dissemination of government programmes and policies while maintaining their independence and duty to make government institutions accountable to the public or have been transformed into mouth pieces of the government.
Two of the seven, Fatou Network and Eye Africa have already issued statements indicating that the contract with the government is to disseminate government policies and programme while maintaining their own independent media content without any interference from government.
Foroyaa will reach out to the other five media establishments for their views.
