WHAT DID HALIFA SALLAH SAY TO FOROYAA ON BOIRAM VILLAGE?

He told Foroyaa that the women of Boiram Village told him during a tour dubbed as dialogue with the people that they have been completely abandoned in terms of access to affordable clean drinking water. The village borehole is dysfunctional and could not be a source of clean drinking. A company called e-water is providing clean drinking water at a price of D10 per 20 litre container plus few more litres. According to them, they must spend D20 to get water to drink, cook and wash as their minimum, which makes it impossible to give water to visitors as they used to.

Farmers earn income on an annual basis and therefore cannot afford to pay monthly or daily bills. The Department of Water Resource and the line ministry should visit the village and ensure that clean drinking water is provided at public sector expense. This is the provision of section 216(4) of the Constitution. It states:

“The  State  shall  endeavour  to  facilitate  equal  access  to  clean  and  safe water, adequate health and medical services, habitable shelter, sufficient food and security to all persons.”

Foroyaa will contact the department of water resources and the ministry for explanation.
