Gambia has taken the move to challenge Burkina Faso referee Boukari Ouedraofo’s ruling that appeared to gift Ghana a penalty which they converted.
Hosts The Black Stars were awarded a penalty in the 97th after Boukari judged that Scorpions’ midfielder Matarr Ceesay had handled the ball in the box.
The verdict led to Gambia exiting the tournament on 1-0 and Gambia Football Federation have now lodged an appeal seeking to overturn the verdict or at least get the referee in the centre of the furore, punished.
Football House confirmed writing to the competition’s chairman seeking redress , copying it to the Confederation of African Football and WAFU member countries.
The GFF urged the organisers to act and not wait until bigger nations are affected before taking swift measures.
In a previous statement, Gambia threatened to opt out of WAFuU’s future tourneys if justice isn’t seen to be done.
