Gambia U-20s this week strolled past Gambia Football Federation domestic league outfit Samger.
Coach Omar Sise and regiment of troop are on preparations for the must-win double-legged tie against Sierra Leone in the preliminary round CAF Youth Championship.
While talks of a likely international friendly for the Young Scorpions is not even been mooted owing to factors of finance, gaffer Sise is not living it lying for the dead with the erstwhile Feni Soccer club tactician busy training his charges.
The Young Scorpions were involved in a local test match against Samger Football Club. A goal by captain Pa Omar Babou from the spot-kick proved decisive. Babou is also the league highest scorer on five goals in 12 matches.
The continental Orange youth championship scheduled to be staged in Zambia –featuring mainly players below the twenty age bracket – next year will see Gambia officially return to the fold after a two-year suspension for fielding ineligible players.
The first-tie is billed for 1, 2 or 3rd April before playing the return leg a fortnight later.
Gambia needs to jettison off Sierra Leone to face Morocco for the final round to be played between May and June.
