Ecowas and the United Nations appear to be searching for answers on how to keep the community united instead of being divided as is currently the case. The community met in Banjul on 30th/31st July with a view to finding solutions to the withdrawal of Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso from Ecowas. Many statements were made on the need to improve governance, inclusion and democracy.
How those states can be prevented from being isolated from Ecowas has also been mentioned. Why the programme was hosted by The Gambia is still not clear. What the conference hoped to achieve is still a question mark. It is important for diagnostic conferences to start with thinkers who have researched such subjects to engage in inciteful debates on the causes, consequences and possible solutions of such withdrawals from Ecowas before bringing former heads of state or government for a review exercise.
Foroyaa will raise vital matters associated with the conference as Question of the Day tomorrow.
