Track Queen Mariama T. Jallow made Gambia proud this week by making waves in the Kassel’s Marathon in Germany.
The sensation unfurled Gambia’s four-coloured flag waving it enthusiastically in delight after she pulled off shocks finishing fourth in the women’s category of 11km on an impressive timing of 2.44.59 seconds.
Jallow, who has been a standout representing the West African nation in a series of international competitions, expressed delight upon conclusion of the race.
“I am very happy with my performance,” she told Foroyaa Sport from Germany.
Ethiopia’s Sintayehu Kibelo topped the women’s race on 2.42:14 with Gladys Kiprotich coming at second-place while Kenya’s Prisca Kiprono settled for third on 2.43:39 seconds.
Kenya grabbed the headlines making their presence felt as they scooped gold, silver and bronze in the Men’s race.
Edwin Kosgei wrapped up the show first on 2.15:46 with compatriot Hosea Tuei trailing him as second best and Antony Wairuri at third.
