Readers would recall that the state in its statement of defence in the suit filed by the families of the children who died because of kidney failure was very truthful to the court. The Director of Civil Litigation indicated in no uncertain terms that the cause of the kidney failure deaths is the paracetamol syrup product that the children drank as medicine.
The judge, Justice Jaiteh, did not hesitate to ask the government to try to settle the matter out of court. In short, the government was advised to seek a remedy before the axe will fall.
In the sitting of 21st November 2023 the Director of Civil Litigation asked for adjournment to enable them to complete their negotiation. Foroyaa is still wondering what the pronouncement of the court would be after the completion if the negotiation is successful that would give the government sufficient ground for international litigation against the producers and exporters of the paracetamol product.
