THE FIRST TREASON TRIAL DURING PRESIDENT BARROW’S SECOND TERM

117

A trial requires accused persons and witnesses. The state has finally narrowed down the number of accused persons charged. Some of those who were initially charged are now discharged and have to be used as state witnesses. Those who are charged are members of the Armed Forces of The Gambia and one policeman. They are (Lance Corporal) Sanna Fadera, (Sergeant) Gibril Darboe, (Corporal) Ebrima Sanno, (Corporal) Omar Njie, and (Sub-Inspector) Fabakary Jawara.

Those whose charges are dropped and are to be taken as state witnesses are Mustapha Jabbi and Saikou Gassama were also released.

The case is adjourned till 2nd February for continuation of proceedings. In the meantime the country is preparing for its 58th birthday and is also waiting for the decision of the president to fill the vacant post of vice president.

This is a country in a state of reflection about its future. Where do we go from here? That is the question everybody is asking. We will follow developments as they come and hope that all Gambians will reflect together to decide a way forward that will address the challenges of the homeland and the people.
