Sovereign national assets such as sea ports, airports and bridges must be protected from the types of investment that would undermine sovereign control of them. The amount of money the government of The Gambia has paid and is still paying for breach of contract should alarm every government to be careful in signing partnership agreements without adequate scrutiny.

A National Assembly member should ask how many times the Government of The Gambia has been subjected to international arbitration between 1994 and 2024 and how much the country has paid for breach of contract.

Performance audit should be conducted every two years on all public enterprises in order to assess their degree of compliance with any performance contract entered into. Foroyaa will be requesting for a copy of the contract between GPA and the Albayrak Group regarding the port expansion project in Banjul and the construction of the deep sea port in Sanyang.
