The Spokesperson of the Gambia Police Force (GPF), Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, Binta Njie on Wednesday, 24 January, 2024 confirmed to Foroyaa that the suspect of the New Jeshwang murder case was arrested and detained by the police.
According to the police spokesperson, the incident happened on the 13 January, 2024 in New Jeshwang.
“According to the information we have gathered, the suspect is a 33-year-old man and the victim is one Thomas Gomez, a 27-year-old, both of them residing in New Jeshwang,” she said.
PRO Njie further said the untimely death of the victim (Thomas Gomez) occurred on Sunday, 14 January, 2024 and the family of the deceased went on to bury their loved one without reporting the information to the police.
“The information we gathered so far stated that the victim went to the residence of the suspect and was disturbing there. They said that the suspect asked him to stop, but he did not and the suspect later took a cement block and hit the victim,” she narrated.
PRO Njie said the victim was then rushed to the Kanifing General Hospital and was released. The next day his condition got worse and he was taken back to the same hospital but was later referred to Ndemban hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“Both families did not report the incident to any of the police stations; they went on and buried the victim without notifying us,” PRO Njie told Foroyaa.
She said after hearing the incident, the police went to the residence of the suspect and apprehended his father who helped them to arrest the suspect.
“The suspect is now in our custody helping us with our investigations,” she noted.
