By Sulayman Bah Second division table topping Steve Biko FC has been fined for failing to ‘honour’ an FA Cup fixture with Wallidan. The new development comes hot on the heels of the Bakau-based club’s apparent refusal to turn up in a rescheduled match against the Blue Boys (Wallidan). The saga began when Wallidan turned up without their players’ licenses. The GFF gave Biko the points but following an appeal by Wallidan, took the points and demanded for a replay. But Steve Biko expressed disapproval over the issue, insisting that they deserve the points and accused the federation of gross incompetence and inefficiency. However, the case has taken a different trajectory with the GFF disciplinary committee imposing a fine of D10, 000 on Biko. In a statement issued on Monday, the GFF said: ‘Steve Biko did not turn up for their FA Cup replay match against Wallidan. In light of this development, Steve Biko is been fined D10, 000:00 (Ten Thousand Dalasi) as in Part 5. Article 33(Unplayed Matches and abandonment) of the Code of Conduct of the GFF ‘If a match cannot take place or cannot be played in full for other reasons than force majeure, but due to the behaviour of a team for which a club is liable, the club will be sanctioned with a minimum fine of Ten Thousand Dalasi (D10, 000:00). The match will either be forfeited or replayed if both teams are responsible for the abandonment’. The fine should be paid on or before Tuesday 12th May, 2015 as the deadline. Biko as at press time were yet to issue any communique in response to the matter. ]]>
