In a landmark deal, QCell, Gambia’s leading telecoms company under the Q-Group, has officially endorsed a business agreement with the country’s most decorated athlete, Gina Mariam Bass Bittaye.

The signing ceremony, held last Friday, was graced by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS), The Gambia National Olympics Committee (GNOC), The Gambia Athletics Association (GAA), and other key members of the sporting community.

QCell, renowned for its extensive network coverage and affordable internet service, has been a staple in Gambia’s telecom landscape since its inception in 2011. The company’s relentless pursuit of innovation has continuously improved its services and expanded its subscriber base.

Muhammed Jah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Q-Group, praised Gina’s impressive track record.

“We have been monitoring you over the years and have seen that you have standards and need support. You also believe in the ‘Sunu Buss’ concept. Therefore, we have no choice but to sign you as our brand ambassador,” he said.

Jah emphasized Q-Group’s commitment to supporting Gina’s goals in the sports industry and advised her to maintain discipline and focus.

Amie Sise, Head of Marketing for QCell, described Gina as a dynamic, versatile, and talented young lady.

“Gina has inspired many young people across the country,” Sise noted.

She expressed delight with the partnership, highlighting QCell’s history of supporting education, health, and sports, including recent contributions to the AFCON.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Bakary Y. Badjie, applauded QCell’s initiative, urging the company to continue supporting sports beyond this partnership.

“We need private sector intervention to support the development of sports in the country,” he said.

Gina’s husband and manager, Mustapha Bittaye, expressed gratitude for the groundbreaking deal.

“We are honoured. We know that this is the first of its kind in the country,” he said, assuring that they would strive to meet the expectations of both parties.

Gina Mariam Bass Bittaye, a celebrated athlete with five gold medals, two silver, and two bronze, expressed her joy in partnering with QCell.

“This company belongs to the Gambians,” she stated, calling on everyone to subscribe to QCell. “You have hope for me. I will work as expected to contribute to the development of your company.”

Mrs. Amira Jagne, First Vice President of the Gambia Athletics Association (GAA), lauded Gina as a national pride and Africa’s fastest woman in the 100 meters. She commended QCell for their decision to support local talent and promote sports within the community.

“Gina’s upcoming participation in the Olympic Games in Paris underscores the significance of this partnership,” Jagne added, expressing confidence that this collaboration will not only benefit Gina, but the entire athletics community in Gambia.
