The Scorpions have never qualified for a senior continental tournament and are ardent to break to tatters such long trailing hoodoo beginning with a win over South Africa’s Bafana Bafana. And ahead of this coming weekend’s expected thriller bout, Italy-based Gambian forward Ali Sowe, has thrown his weight behind his Scorpion mates to shine in the Rainbow Nation. Talking to Foroyaa Sport from his base in Italy, the 21-year-old who was poised to be selected against SA before injury ruled him out, said: ‘I’m wishing the coach and his staff the best of luck, Looking at the new players in the squad, and knowing that we are having many players in the globe, as a player, I believe there is no difference between the new and the previous called up players. May we come back home with victory on the 13th inshallah that’s my prayers for now…” The erstwhile Gamtel hit-man had played for two clubs this season alone -all on loan basis – but sustained injury at the tail end of the last season which consequently cost him a place in the plane to Johannesburg. ‘t’s always an honor to play for my nation, and knowing that am not in good conditions I felt it was wise to let the (Gambia Football) Federation know that I was injured….,’ says Ali currently undergoing a recuperation process at parent club Chievo Verona in a bid to hit his engine running for the oncoming league campaign.
