Soldier Modou Njie’s Father Held for 67 Days Now

By Kebba Jeffang Mr. Bai Jobe Njie, the father of Modou Njie, a former member of theModou Njie Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), who was reported captured and facing a court martial for his alleged involvement in the 30th December 2014 attack on State House, is still being held incommunicado for 67 days today.A family source confirmed to this reporter that Mr. Njie is still being held without access to his family. The source added that up to now, the whereabouts of Mr. Njie remain unknown to them. Modou Njie’s father was arrested and taken away around 2am at his home in Talinding Farokono by men in plain clothes on the 2nd January, 2015. As for the son, the former soldier, the source confirmed that he is currently being tried at a court martial being held in the officers’ mess in Fajara Barracks and which some of their family members are attending. He said he does not know what he is being charged with but that a non-Gambian lawyer is representing him. “We are still appealing to the authorities to release our parent (Bai Jobe Njie) as his continuous detention is causing real trauma to the family,” said the relative.
