SHOULD IT BE DESIRABLE FOR ANY BODY TO AIM TO BE PRESIDENT FOR LIFE

It is therefore timely for the heads of state in the sub-region to have decided to standardise a two term limit as the ideal time frame for occupying executive office. We therefore hope that the leaders of ruling party in the Gambia whose members of parliament tried to justify some of the clauses  of the Elections (Amendment) Bill by quoting examples from the sub-region would also heed the call for a term limit in the sub-region and move in that direction. It is obvious that the current head of state would be 65 years in the next 15 years. One cannot hold on to power forever. It is better to build standards which would outlive one’s presidency and be remembered for the reform. This is the dictate of wisdom. The wise and the magnanimous would pay heed.    ]]>
