Raoul Savoy and his Scorpions outfit would be hoping to put on a
show against Cameroon in what will be their first home fixture in the
on-going Afcon qualifiers.
The Gambian team arrived Wednesday morning contrary to reports they
would jet in on Friday. The team conducted an open training session at
the Independence Stadium yesterday.
Savoy in his roster opted for experience over exuberance recalling a
bulk of veteran players with only two players namely Bubacarr Trawally and
AbdoulieJallow the fresh inclusions.
US-based Futty Danso and Sainey Nyassi who now are second division
players are one of the surprise inclusions. Nyassi of Edmonton last
played for the squad in 2010 against Burkina Faso whilst a New England
Revolution player.
Futty who’d made no secret of his intentions to retire from
internationals got a surprise call-up. He’d been a regular in Gambia’s
defence since debuting against the Burkinabes and was only snubbed in
the tie against South Africa.
Kebba Ceesay of Lech Poznan is expected to bolster the squad too. An
Unsettled Mustapha Carayol is excluded due to uncertainty surrounding
his future at club side Middlesbrough FC.
IbouSawaneh is touted to lead Gambia’s line after Ousman Jallow decided
against coming citing fitness issues. Gambia is ranked 143rd in
September’s Fifa ranking, dropping by one place.
