Initially signed to a 12-month deal, Finnish club RoPS have now seenAbdou Jammeh 2
Abdou Jammeh’s worth and wants the Gambian captain’s contract revised.
Jammeh was acquired on a season-long deal – a contract that now runs
out in December – after impressing the club board in a short-term
audition prior to start of this recently concluded league campaign.Abdou, who made his club coach to have faith in him, is playing a
pivotal role to seal the back-line, an input that has been more than
invaluable, as RoPS punched above their weight to make a daring charge
for the league title for the first time in as many years.
RoPS wrapped up the title run-in second best, losing only eight games
– one less than eventual winner SJK –with Jammeh in the heart of the
defense.
And for his show of consistency in the thirty-two matches played,
coach Malinen is intent on making an improved contract proposal to the
29-year-old to fend off the blizzard of interest the Gambian is
attracting from clubs across Europe.
Though first round of negotiations over a contract extension has yet to
begin but sources close to the player intimates to Foroyaa Sport that
Jammeh himself is ardent on inking a renewed deal.
News of the player’s willingness to feature in another season for RoPS
will calm gaffer Malinen’s nerves amid reports of overtures from clubs
from Scandinavia. But an agreement between both parties will hinge on
a condition of an improved wage.
The Finnish club missed out on the Europa League football this season but
will surely launch a return next term and keeping its squad intact
will be the outfit’s priority for the European competition.
