SBEC Heads, Students Call On Minister Of Basic, Secondary Education

Three students who have successful competed in the recently ended International Robotics Competition (IRC) in the United States of America and came out 2nd and 1st position in the world and in Africa respectfully, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) last Thursday, to present to her their awards. Abdoukarim Demba, Abdoulie M. Njie and Malick A. Jammeh together with Hassan Sillah who led the students to the IRC, were accompanied by the Heads of SBEC International School and College in the persons of Momodou Colley and David Hafner. The SBEC delegation expressed their profound thanks and appreciation to the Minister Mrs. Claudian Cole, for her Ministry’s assistance and support rendered to their School over the years.

The Head of SBEC International High School Momodou Colley said they were at the Minister’s Office to dedicate the awards and achievements of the students to her, her entire Ministry and the Government of the Gambia, for their unflinching support to SBEC International School and to assure her of the continuous partnership between MoBSE and SBEC International School.

On her part, the Minister of MoBSE Mrs. Claudian Cole applauded the students from SBEC for coming out 1st in Africa, and second in the world. She explained to the students and their heads of delegation, how excited the Government and the people of the Gambia including her entire Ministry were, about their brilliant performance during the IRC in the US. She thanked them for making the tiny African nation of the Gambia very proud by coming on top of the rest of the countries of Africa.

‘‘I am proud of you for raising the country’s flag high and for making the entire country proud by coming out top ahead of all the countries in Africa, and second behind only the US, in this Robotics competition,’’ Minister Cole told the students and their delegation heads.

The Director of Science and Technology at MoBSE Momodou Jeng, Deputy Permanent Secretary at MoBSE Jerre Sanyang and World Bank Officials attended the ceremony.
