By Sulayman Bah Gambia forward Saihou Gassama has opted to continue playing in Spain signing a contract with La Hoya Lorca, Foroyaa Sport can report. Gassama was reported to be ardent on pursuing football elsewhere away from sunny Spain after former club Huesca decided against offering him a revised contract.Saihou, 21, raked up 700 minutes for the navy blue and reds helping them secure promotion to the Segunda, Spain’s second division. During his season-long stay there, the former Gambia Ports Authority ace got to feature against European club champions Barcelona in Spain’s cup competition. Talks over a possible contract extension began but soon stalled forcing the Scorpion to seek pastures new and on Monday, Foroyaa Sport understands, the forward put the final touches to his move signing a one-year deal with La Hoya Roca. Since his release by relegated La liga outfit Real Zaragoza, the former Gambia U-20 captain had shuttled a dozen times between clubs in the Spanish lower league and his latest move sees him remain in third division. The winger became a favourite amongst Gambia fans when he became the first Gambian to sign a deal with a LaLiga club a long term contract. Zaragoza acquired Gassama’s signature as a promising youngster with strong hopes he will make the first team in the future. But the then 16-year-old failed to even nail down a regular spot in the reserves team and was released in a mass player exodus following the club relegation from the Spanish top flight. A stint at Sarinena, Heusca and now La Hoya Lorca followed. La Hoya finished 13th last season in group B of the Third Division the previous season.]]>
